If there is one era that never fails to wow in terms of glamour, it’s got to be the 1920s. This decade was marked by decadence, luxury and rebellion. Women experimented with dress lengths, haircuts, music, social conventions, everything. The glamour and impeccable fashion sense of this era is perfectly captured in the bewitching portraits of flapper girls like Louise Brooks, Josephine Baker and Clara Bow. Elleyse Gemondo’s pictures below are a nostalgic tribute to the roaring twenties.

Gemondo can easily pass off as a poster girl for the 1920s in this picture with her feather headband, long velvet gloves, fringe dress, bright red lipstick, short hair, art deco inspired earrings, feather boa, and of course, the long, ornate cigarette holder.

The black & white classic shot of Gemondo’s red fringe flapper cocktail dress is a master piece from that decade. The keyword of this decade was glamour, so luxurious materials that helped achieve that effect were used such as beads, fringes, taffeta, silks, chiffons, satins and lace.

The hemlines went up and the waist line dropped with no defined waist giving an overall boyish look. Yet what never ceases to amaze me is how feminine the women of that era managed to look despite the obvious bent towards androgynous clothing.

Jewelry was limited to long string of pearls and geometric art deco inspired pieces.

Another perfect shot; this elevator shot with its shiny reflections mimics the glamour filled atmosphere of that era to perfection. T-bar shoes were the rage then, so if you’re trying to recreate the 1920’s, it’s a wise idea to stay away from stilettos.

The hair was short, most flapper girls featured bobs or chignons and styled their hair with shiny, fitted skull caps or feather headbands.

Gemondo’s makeup is spot on the makeup of the 20s was dramatic, and featured strong kohl lined eyes, steel grey eye shades with brilliant red lips and lots of blush; the flappers were after all known for their excessive makeup.

The outerwear was just as amazing, the ultimate luxury for women were knee length mink coats, luxury and glamour at its highest and might I add what an amazing backdrop
