Who doesn’t love being a star, even if for a day? And homecoming is a perfect chance to just shine out and enjoy the celebrity-like attention you get from friends and family. Just like any other special day, you want to look your best as you go about enjoying this special day. But one little blooper, and your look could be ruined really badly…and you may just be remembered for all the wrong reasons!
Now don’t fret, ladies. To save you from making an unforgiveable fashion faux pas, here are some tips to tell you what you should completely stay away from when it comes to your homecoming ensemble.
1. Very High Heels
Thinking you’ll want that tall, graceful look of Angelina Jolie’s with a pair of 6-inch heels? While you may end up looking fabulous for the photographs, I’m quite convinced that your mobility will be pretty compromised in something that difficult to move in. Don’t forget that there will be a lot of standing and walking around to do, so unless you’re used to grocery shopping every other day in high heels, choose a more comfortable height.
2. Anything in Denim
Denim may be extremely smart, but there’s something about it that screams casual. And for a homecoming dinner, where you are literally the star of the show, jeans, a denim skirt or even a denim jacket will just kill that special, dressed-up look. You’ve worn them enough during your college days; homecoming can surely be an exception.
3. Something Skimpy
You don’t want to have the wrong kind of attention and people talking behind your back at your homecoming dinner. Very short hemlines are just too risqué for something so formal, and you really don’t want to embarrass all the loved ones who helped organize the event for you. Stick to a knee-length dress if you wish to flaunt your legs.
4. Anything Too Formal
Homecoming is a lot about having fun and enjoying the event. So the general tone of your outfit has to be semi-formal. If you decide to wear a floor-grazing, strapless gown, don’t blame us when you end up looking quite overdressed for the evening.
5. Very Outdated Styles
Multi-colored parachute pants, over-sized sweaters, puffed sleeves, Nehru collars and tie-and-dye prints are just so ancient! You are a 2013 girl and your fashion choices should show that! Go for metallic shoes, choose a sleek dress in emerald green, try a dress with beaded embellishments and choose minimalist jewelry to look like a stylish fashionista celebrating her homecoming.
6. Baggy and Ill-fitting Clothes
Anyone following my blog knows that I’m totally against ill-fitting clothes. For your homecoming, your outfit has to fall gracefully over the curves of your body. Choose something that looks good on you individually and accentuates your best features.
Now when shopping for your homecoming clothes and accessories, take a list of these big no-no’s along with you. The last thing you’d want is to look anything less than perfect on this special day!
